SCCA Vail Valley National Tour, July 31-Aug 2, 2009 : Amy and Terry towed 16 hours to the Vail Valley National Tour autocross with the EVO X. Amy won her class (STU-L) and Terry and co-driver John finished mid-pack. We fought a push all weekend that we've since traced and hopefully fixed.

MSR 10th Aniversary Celebration : Brian, Terry and Amy went to this event at MSR on Saturday and had a total blast! Yokohama asked us to attend to give people ride-alongs on their tires. We got a set of Yokohama A048s mounted up that morning at PST and drove from 8 am until 4:45 pm, non-stop. The EVO was flawless, fast, and generated a lot of smiles running on the 1.3 mile course.

SCCA at TMS, June 14, 2009 : Terry and Amy took the EVO to an SCCA Regional at Texas Motor Speedway's asphalt lot, running the new Yokohama AD08s for the first time. Apparently the tires can compensate for bad driving, as we both coned every run yet still won their classes (W and STU). The raw times compared well to other classes and PAX. Maybe next time they can not hit a cone on every run???

NTAXS at Mineral Wells, May 31, 2009 : Amy and Terry went and joined the North Texas Auto-X Series at Mineral Wells on a hot May day. Temps crept up to 95°F but we were done by 3 pm and ready to cool down. We had never run with this group before, which was formerly the S2000 club. Racers were made up primarily of S2000 and Miatas from the DFW area, as well as a handful of competitive SCCA autocrossers from other clubs. They set up a long (80+ second) and busy course that had some tight turn arounds, tight slaloms, but long straights. It was fun to drive and worked well for our driving styles and setup. The EVO and the Yokohama AD07s took the heat well and Terry and Amy managed fastest and 2nd fastest times of the day (FTD), as well as a 1-2 finish in their "Class 2". Harris Hill Road, Testing + NTEC Lapping Event - May 8, 2009 : We joined the North Texas Evo Club for a day at Harris Hill Road on a Friday for a 5 hour lapping event. We went down earlier and rented more track time for some private testing in the morning. We had a total blast, the NTEC put on a great event and we got some great testing done on the EVO (Fair finally got to drive it on track, too). Check the in-car videos in the "Videos" section inside this "Racing Events" sub-category.

BMWCCA Club Race & DE, MSR Cresson, March 28, 2009 : Hanchey ran the EVO X in the DE group at the BMWCCA March event at Motorsport Ranch. No other car was as quick in the DE groups, but that's not what was important - the new 265mm Advans on 18x10.5" wheels made for a full second improvement (in heavy traffic) over laps times on the 245mm Dunlops at the same track 2 weeks before. Weather on Saturday was dismal - 37F and windy (30-40mph winds) made for a chilly day, and didn't help track temps or tire grip.

NASA Time Trial, MSR Cresson, March 13, 2009 : Hanchey drove the EVO X to a TTA win at Motorsport Ranch Cresson at our first NASA event of the year. This is the first time he's run the EVO with the new 4200s at a NASA event and his first event at MSR since May 2008. 1:25.4 second lap times on the 1.7 mile course were quick considering it was one of the only top 20 TT cars on street tires, and is BARELY in TTA (moved up from TTB).

Harris Hill Road - Vorshlag/GRM Test Day, March 4, 2009 : Vorshlag brought the EVO X down to Harris Hill Road's track and tested for the entire day - we had the track to ourselves. GRM writer Per Schroeder and Andy Hollis were there to drive/ride in the EVO and we spent the rest of the day sorting the AST 4200/COBB swaybar setup. SCCA @ Le Grave Field, Nov 16th, 2008 : Last Texas Region SCCA autocross for 2008. Amy and Terry took Brian's EVO X MR to the event on the stock suspension, wheels, exhaust, and tune but sporting the 245mm Dunlops Star Specs. Data logged every run and ran the transmission in S-Sport mode, with heavy use of Left Foot Braking. No transmission problems whatsoever, and in fact the trans worked like a dream! Terry placed 3rd in STU, only 3 tenths out of first, and there was a lot more potential in the car. Its going to be fast when we get real suspension and power installed.

BMW at Eagles Canyon, Oct 19, 2008 : Hanchey and Fair went to the first DE that the local BMW chapter held at Eagles Canyon Raceyway. It was a great event with lots of track time in the EVO and our E30. We took pictures during some track sessions and during the 1 hour Enduro Club Race on Sunday, plus in-car video in the E30. Baseline lap times of 2:11 in the EVO and 2:15 on the E30. DL1 data showed 1.3g lateral on the E30.

NASA Time Trial, Eagles Canyon, Oct. 11, 2008 : The Vorshlag crew took 3 cars tot he inaugural NASA DE/TT/Road Race at Eagles Canyon Raceway October 11th, 2008. Amy ran her first DE in a decade running the E30. Hanchey ran the EVO X for the first time on a road course in TTB (and won the class). Fair ran the Alpha car in TTU (and won with the fastest TT time of the day, a 1:57.4 lap time). Learned a lot about the EVO with the stock suspension and Dunlop star Specs (good baseline, more work to do for trans cooling). The Alpha car was hauling ass - but slinging oil away from the pickup. SCCA at TMS Road Course (auto-x), Sept 28, 2008 : The annual Texas Motor Speedway Road Course autocross event held by the Texas Region is always a lot of fun and we never miss it. This year the Vorshlag crew was there in our LS1 powered E36 with Fair at the wheel in XP, Amy in our E30 318is in STS, and Matt had his GTI running in STX-N. Rare mechanical problems plagued us all day, with the E30 springing a coolant leak, the Alpha car still suffering ABS problems and then the fuel pump died on my last run. Still, we had a BLAST!

2008 SCCA Solo Nationals : Pictures from the 2008 SCCA Solo Nationals held at Heartland Park Topeka, in Topeka, Kansas. The Vorshlag crew was there for almost 7 days and we ran cars in multiple classes. Good fun and decent weather this year overshadowed a dirty course surface and brake locking problems on the XP Alpha car. Amy did well in the lone BMW in an otherwise Honda-only STS-L class, taking the 4th place trophy spot. With a little more development and no cone trouble the car should finish closer to the top.

BMW at TMS Bus Lot, Aug 9, 2008 : The Lone Star chapter of the BMWCCA had an autocross on August 8th at the TMS Bus Lot. 102F outside and the racing action was hot. Vorshlag drivers Hanchey and Amy took a dominant 1, 2 in B Class in the AST equipped E30 318is, while Fair drove a customer's AST equipped 335i to win the top BMW class, G, and missed setting FTD by .04 sec. A good day racing!

Stett Summer Party 2008 : Fair and Matt from Vorshlag / AST-USA attended the Stett car show on July 26, 2008. We were also joined by McCall, and his E36 M3, The Vorshlag E30 and Matt's GTI were all in the show and AST equipped. Very hot temps didn't dampen the crowd too badly, and two bands played in the beating sun.

LSC BMWCCA - Mineral Wells - July 12, 2008 : Mineral Wells is hot in July. 104°F and no shade. Amy ran the STS classed E30 and won B class by ~5 seconds on a brand new set-up... Four different people drove the car in competition that day and the clutch *exploded* on the very last run. Oh well, not bad for 200K+ miles. Fair ran the C5 Corvette AST test car in Z class and won the class and set Fast Time of Day. He had another run a full second quicker but coned it away. Lesson learned: in a Corvette with Kumho V710s you need to use a harness. I'm bruised and sore from being thrown around inside the Corvette!

GRM UTCC 2008 - Buttonwillow 13 : Here are pictures from Vorshlag's 3000 mile round trip to the Grassroots Motorsports Ultimate Track Car Challenge (GRM UTCC) in 2008. This event was sanctioned by GRM, run by NASA as a Time Trial, and held at Buttonwillow, CA track #13. We had a blast and can't wait to get more power/grip/aero on our E36 LS1 Alpha car for next year's event!

TWS - HPDE - May 17, 2008 : Hanchey, Fair and Ronnie from AST went to an HPDE event at Texas World Speedway and ran the Alpha car for the 2nd day in a row. None of us had run at TWS for about 10 years so we were stuck in the "noobie" groups with instructors for our first stints. It worked out great and we were advanced to the top groups quickly, as well as checked out for our NASA Time Trial licenses that day (which was our whole purpose for going). The Alpha car performed flawlessly, and we ran a full tank of fuel through it without incident and not a single tire touching dirt. The Alpha car proved once again that it can do everything well - autocross, lower speed road course and higher speed road courses events, with very few adjustments needed. Tomorrow its going to run Mineral Wells autocross to round out the weekend.

MSR - Alpha Car - May 16, 2008 : Vorshlag took the Alpha E36 LS1 to a member day (Thanks, Rich!) at Motorsport Ranch Cresson on May 16, 2008. Brian & Terry with Vorshlag and Ronnie from AST Holland were on hand to flog the LS1 powered BMW for the entire day on the 1.7 mile configuration. With only 3 other cars running all day we had the track almost entirely to ourselves. Weather was perfect and the car was brutally fast. It doesn't get any better than this!

SCCA Ft. Worth Nat'l Tour, May 4-5, 2008 : Vorshlag entered 2 cars in the 2008 SCCA Ft. Worth National Tour. Our STS BMW E30 placed well in its first competitive SCCA outing with limited modifiecations in botht he STS class (4th) and STS0L (1st). Our Alpha E36 LS1 car also won its class, XPrepared, on a brand new/untested set-up. We've got a lot more upgrade work and testing planned for both cars in the near future.

SCCA Pennington March 16, 2008 : Amy raced the E30 in STS "W" and Terry raced the Alpha car in XP at the first SCCA event for 2008 at the small concrete lot at Pennington Field. Not our favorite site to race (probably our least favorite, but at least its "close") yet the weather was nice enough, and we had a big gap in our schedule until the next event we could run, so we took both cars out. The Alpha car started the day on corded front tires, which only got worse and made for awful course times. Then it ran out of gas on my 3rd and fastest run. This defines "FUBAR". Felt like I wasted the day; I should have just entered the E30 in STS. But man... These two cars couldn't be more different! The E30 ran on the new 195/50/15 Bridgestones for the first time and they just started to get scrubbed in by her 3rd and final run. Still have lots of testing and improvements to make to both cars. Step one: don't show up on corded race tires! Step 2: put fuel in the tank! Stupid, stupid, stupid...

NASA MSR-C Track Testing + Time Trial, March 15-16, 2008 : Hanchey tested with a customer (Rich) on his Subaru STi Time Trial car out at MotorSport Ranch-Cresson. They tested on Friday on the 1.7 mile course and Rich ran the TT events on Saturday and Sunday.

Nissan240 Test-N-Tune Feb 23, 2008 : Amy and Terry helped set-up some courses at Mineral Wells for some local 240SX guys and got the opportunity to do some testing on the E30 before the car has entered its first competition event. We set-up our standard 30 second test course and tested the all new suspension set-up for the first time on our '91 318is. After various shock settings didn't fix it, a significant spring rate change in the rear helped to calm down the chassis. Further timed testing (about 66 runs total) with both drivers helped chase down valving and other parameters for the base set-up. The E30 even did well in head-to-head comparisons with the other cars there on the large 1+ mile course they were running, so maybe this chassis has some promise.

Yokohama Ride-and-Drive Oct. 10, 2007 : Yokohama product introduction "Arrive and drive" event Amy and Terry went to in 2007. We were lucky enough to be invited to this event, and got to speak with the national Advan and Yokohama folks at length. We talked about their autocross support, the AD07 and its shortcomings/strengths, and got to drive the wheels off of a number of BMW E90 sedans. Amy did well, but coned her competition run (no one else was close to her). Terry fared better and set the fastest time of that session (and all other sessions that weekend) with a 2 second margin of victory. It probably helped us both that we had run on AD07s in BMWs for the past 2 years, and had run at this event site a few times previously... but it was still nice to go out and win this "driver's challenge" by a huge margin. ;)

2007 SCCA Solo Nationals, Sept 25-28, 2007 : Pictures of the Vorshlag Crew at the 2007 SCCA Solo Nationals. This event is being held at Heartland Park Topeka (Topeka, Kansas) and attracts 1200+ competitors. Vorshlag had 9 drivers in STU and STU-L as well as some other select classes. Amy took home the STU-L championship, but the rest of us... not so much.

We had a good day overall with a strong showing among the regular STU crowd by the M3 driven by Terry and Amy Fair, the '07 STi driven by Hanchey and Weiss, the '05 STi driven by Fitz and Paul, and the '06 EVO IX driven by the McCalls. Everyone seems to have a handle on their tires and set-ups and there should be no set-up changes going onto Topeka!

SCCA SW Div#3 - Ft. Worth - Aug 18-19, 2007 : SCCA 2-day Divisional event August 18-19, 2007. Held at the LaGrave Baseball Field parking lot, which is about as smooth as the Moon's surface. Rain and sun on Saturday, sun all day Sunday. Amy won STU-L, Terry got 3rd in STU (out of 11), both in the M3. Other Vorshlag cars included Paul's '05 STi (winning STU with Fitz at the wheel), the McCalls' EVO and Hanchey's STi.

SCCA LaGrave August 5, 2007 : Amy and Terry ran the M3 on the new 18x10s and 265 Bridgestones this day, while Brian ran the STi on the 245 Bridgerstones for the first time. New, unshaved 10/32" of tread and 105°F heat combined to make for some dismal performance from these new tires. Time to break out the tire shaving tools...

SCCA TMS Road Course July 15, 2007 (part 1) : The Texas Region hosted 227 cars to their annual 1.2 mile road course autocross at Texas Motor Speedway. As frustrating as the event was the day before, it was all forgotten after doing the first run on this course. What a blast! Lots of fast slaloms, high speed offsets, and big sweepers. Just busy enough to keep the speeds from getting too fast for an "autocross", but fast enough to get you a big grin. We had several of Amy's co-workers, family members, etc., come join us for ride throughs at this event. Even with the long day and hot weather, everyone had a blast! Fair won STU in Hanchey's STi, Amy came in second in open class in the M3. GOOD TIMES! Thanks to Redwood for snapping most of these pictures.

BMWCCA LaGrave July 14, 2007 : BMWCCA's Lone Star Chapter ran their first (and probably last) event at the La Grave parking lot in downtown Ft. Worth on Saturday July 14th. 60 second course with 1st gear used 4 times, lots of big damaging bumps, and a very tight/slow slalom that had tp be crawled through. Weather was great and the site could be fun with about a shorter layout that avoided the massive drainage humps. Teucci brought the Alpha LS1 car up to the event, which was fun to watch... right until the big bumps cost him a brand new Kumho 710 tire. I lost most of the front undertray pieces on the M3 from smashing over the bumps, Redwood lost a foglight. At least it didn't rain.

SCCA TMS 05-06-2007 : SCCA Regional event where the Vorshlag/AST cars took 1-2! Hanchey won in the STi on borrowed tires with Fair .085 sec behind in 2nd, in this 10 car class (plus some additional entries in STU-Novice and STU-Ladies). Great event, good data. Lots of potential left in the STi once it gets fresh rubber!

BMW Mineral Wells 05-05-2007 : BMWCCA autocross event at Mineral Wells. Maiden voyage for the newly prepped STi on AST shocks, front bar, some power goodies, and borrowed SSRs and old Yokohamas. Also the first outing of the M3 on AST prototype double adjustables. We did pretty well in the rain, with the M3 setting some fast times that compared well with earlier dry runs from others. We didn't stay 'will the end and it dried out on the afternoon session. Good data from this event tho!

SCCA School + Auto-x Pennington, March 17-18, 2007 : Amy and Terry instructed at the SCCA Novice School on March 17th, then entered the SCCA auto-x on the 18th. The M3 had ignition trouble and Amy never got a full run. Terry limped in a run good enough for 2nd, then hopped a co-drive in an EVO for one run and managed 2nd place out of 7. The school was fun, the auto-x course itself was great, but the ignition troubles were a pain in the ass.

Vorshlag Test-N-Tune Feb 10, 2007 : Here are pictures from the 3rd Vorshlag Test-N-Tune event at the Mineral Wells Airpark. This was a 2007 season opening practice event where 13 drivers took to the 4 courses we had laid out to blow out the cobwebs from our short winter racing break. Vorshlag's M3 was tested with numerous new products, including LTW5 wheels, our prototype poly engine mounts and Mason heim-jointed end links.

BMW Mineral Wells 08-19-06 : The LSC chapter of the BMWCCA held an autocross at Mineral Wells Airpark on Saturday, August 19th. It was hot - up to 106°F - but luckily only 47 entrants showed up. Mark Williams designed an excellent 130 second course which had several very fast sections - we hit 3rd gear 3 times on each run. Hanchey won F class but I coned my way to 3rd. The tire wear was staggering, but it sure was fun. The Yokohama Advans showed over 1.28g on the DL-1 data, so that is an improvement.

SCCA TMS 06-18-06 : This was essentially a test day for us. TMS Bus Lot event put on by the Texas Region SCCA. 48 second course, well marked, a bit tight in some placed, but nice and challenging. Amy and Fair raced in the Vorshlag M3 in STU with little better than a 3rd place to show for the day. Unscrubbed, brand new Yokohamas that need a lot LESS camber. 98'F and not enough water!
